Romford 22 v 12 East London Cobwebs blown away

Romford kicked off the 2018/19 pre season with a game against a strong and skilful East london side .

Under the guidance of there new head coach Eddie gooby , park kicked of the first of four quarters and immediately put pressure on the attacking East london side .

Romford playing a new style of play In both attack and defence put in some good hits and took hold of the ball and put some dominance in attack putting East london on the back foot and asking real question a very early spirited defence .

With new combinations and a number of new faces at park there was a few teething problems with the early exchanges seeing balls knocked not going to hand and Mia judgment of calls and plays

Park with a new look pack showed dominance come scrum time and was giving a new looking back a line a number of opportunities in the early exchange , but just didn’t click and a number of opportunities went a begging .

Now finding there feet the attack play started to dominate and holes and mismatches started to appear and the first try was scored with speed of play from park finding Karl Prestoe linking up with the backs to beat 3 defenders to dot down In the left corner . Teddie Duke just pulling the conversion just wide of the left post

Now with the cobwebs starting to drop out the pack started to give the go forward and the backs a number of opportunities to probe the East london defence .

The next try come from the fit and rejuvenated Ian Semain beating a fending of a number of defenders to score . Teddie Duke finding his range converted the try .

Romford with around 40 players looking to get a run out , changed around for the next two quarters where some decent rugby was shown .

East london in the 2nd quarter managed to find the line through some lacklustre defending out wide and a strong surge the East london player was able to barrel through to score the first try . Conversion converted

The 3rd quarter was highly competitive and the guys finding there feet just couldn’t find with some fantastic inter change of play between forwards and backs was just missing that final touch to add to the Romford score , East london however for ever probing found a whole in the park defence and scored a well taken opportunity . Conversion missed

The fourth quarter a number of changes made and a emphasis of playing the game at a high tempo was to pay of , from an attacking dominating scrum Ian Semain found some space attacked it fended of two
Players on the way to score . Converted by Ross Inwood

The next try was all around the work we have put in over the summer a dominating defence with massive hits put In from Karl Prestoe , New signing second row David kitenge and the hard hitting Ian Semain managed to tackle and strip
The attacking East london player . The ball was then offload in the tackle by Semain where the ball was moved wide to winger Jamie harbour , harbour making near on 50 metres with the break was brought down , Barney savil with quick thinking moved the ball down the blind side to give Romford a 3 on 1 attack where Reece parr run in from 40 metres to score In his first game in over year after recovering from a serious knee injury .

All In all it was nice to get the cobwebs out and see a number of guys out on the field , a real head ache for Head coach Jordan Wigham with a number of players having very good games , and a number of guys putting there self in-contention for a starting shirt next week ,  however a number of work ons we need to iron out and tidying up , with a few new players yet to feature and a few returning to the side next week , training this week will be a good a competitive place to stake that calm and follow up
On there impressive performances.

Park are looking good as we head into
The next fixture but the test will gradually get harder and testing as we move towards the first game away to saffron warden .

The boys will be back in next week preparing training hard for there next game on Friday 24th under lights against a Barking side looking strong and working hard to get back to its glory days .

Kick off next week at Barking is 745pm at Barking rugby club - Gale street all support welcome .

We thank Gary and Eddie for the fixture and wish East london the best of luck for the up and coming season and thanks for coming down , a good test for us and hope you got out of the game what we did .
