another great TEAM performance

Romford 1st made the short trip up the A127 to newly promoted Basildon , under the guidance of former professional  Saracens and Toulon player Chris chesney ,whom was looking for there first win of the season, and a Romford team looking to build on the win from last week .

Park kicked of the game and on return  Basildons big forwards trying to break the Romford defensive line but was repelled back with some massive hits a number coming of second row Ben Brewer .

Basildon edged forward caught Park of guard and the Basildon winger scored missing the conversion making the score 5-0 .

The weather starting to play into Basildon hands with there , pick and go game started to edge them forward found them
Selfs back in in Parks 22 , after a persistence of around 7 scrums the park pack stood strong and defended extremely well to keep the big pack at bay , when Basildon did decide to move the ball Paul Webb was unlucky to have deemed to knock the ball forward from an interception, getting yellow carded and with no other option basildon elected for the post to make the score 8-0 .

From the restart romford chased the ball down and was deemed to have knocked the ball on , from the scrum basildon moved the ball wide and used there advantage of the extra man , the Basildon winger finding himself with space and 60 metres out made his attempt for the line , however from the other side of the field running just as far Jack Marron come from no where to make a unbelievable cover tackle , just 5 yards from the line .

This kicked romford into gear and Basildon looked out on there feet and romford stuck to game plan and with ball started getting significant go forward ,Ross Inwood just pulling his first penalty to the left of the post . Now back with a full complement of players the pressure of Romford’s game plan opened up gaps with skipper Micky James going in under the posts . Ross Inwood converting . More pressure from park and another penalty from Ross Inwood put the park 8-10 at half time .

From the restart park put basildon under extreme pressure and romford found the way next to the try line with quick ball and a 3 on 2 in Romford’s favour for Paul Webb to sneak in at the left hand corner , Ross Inwood adding the conversion .

Further pressure in the Basildon half , and another penalty from Ross Inwood making the score 8-20 .

Romford as always loves to be the entertainers and decided to throw the ball around unnecessary which led to a turnover , a passive of possession and out of place defenders Basildon managed to score against the run of play .

From the restart from being disappointed with conceding immediately mounted the pressure and found them self back In Basildon half , quick ball resulting in a great bit of go forward possession gave the park backs the opportunity to attack with fly half Ross Inwood throwing a pin point pass to Jack Marron out wide on the wing ,  who sprinted to the line from 35 out fending of the covering Basildon winger to score a great try . Ross Inwood just pulling the conversion .

With 5 mins left on the clock Basildon mounted a number of attacks , but the Romford defence stood firm , an overlap which the Basildon 10 spotted with 3-4 men over decided to cross-field kick in looking certain to score but Jack Marron for the second time of the day came across with another cover tackle resulting in Basildon knocking the ball on and the ref blowing the final Whistle . Score finishing 13-25 .

A good performance in tough conditions and park are building nicely , still probably only at around 40/60% in terms of the playing ability, but it’s a long season and more to come from the park lads .

Mentions to the 17 year olds all part of the romford youth set up , Freddie Terling debut  , Tyler ford first full start , Thomas medagila first full start playing at first team level is a great feat . Also to Jack Marron on debut after a move to Romford in the summer .

Also a massive thanks to Shaun cox whom due to a late withdrawal was called at 1130 to get himself together and come In and put a huge shift in was great.

Next week park are back on home grou
