Romford come off second best

Romford hosted current Champions Southend for the 1st league game of the season, having already played them in the county Cup and coming off 2nd best then Romford turned up the heat from the off and took the game to Southend much to their surprise, for the first 25 minutes of the game it was very even with Romford playing much rugby in Southends half and it wasnt until the 26th minute of the game Southend pounced on a loose ball to dive over and open the scoring, the visitors then scored straight from the kick off after they cleared down field and with a lucky bounce managed to reclaim the ball and score under the posts, Southend managed to quickly score another on the stroke of half time and somehow lead 19-0 at the break. the 2nd half started again with Romford on the front foot taking the game to Southend for the 1st 15 minutes and threw everything at them hoping the visitors defence would crack, unfortunately this never happened and Southend managed to run the ball from deep in open play and score several times down the wings using their big pacy centre to good effect and wrap up what on paper seemed as easy result but this did not show a true reflection of the effort Romford put into this game, if Romford can replicate the intensity and effort they showed in large patches of the game the results will come in abundance.
