Colchester just too strong

Colchester 29 - 5 Romford

Romford travelled to a very wet, cold and blustery Colchester today. With a squad very much depleted by injuries some of the boys had to play in unfamiliar positions. From the kick of Park put the Colchester pack under pressure with some great phases and offloading. Park pushed towards the Colchester line but a loose ball was snaffled by Colchester they broke at speed using there big strong centres to punch through Romford defence to score an early try. Park went straight back in a again worked tirelessly to put pressure on the Colchester team time and again Owen Dew punched up after being fed by Billy Davidson who had moved from prop to Ten for this game. Again loose ball was picked up and Colchester looked certain to score but a last ditch tackle by Danny Fox at fullback meant Park could regroup. After 5 minutes of great rugby from both teams Colchester broke again and scored under the posts. Park again managed to work there way up the pitch with great forward play and back support. Colchesters Ill discipline led to a Romford lineout. Great throw by Stalabrass, Great take by Milne and a superb drive put Romford within 15 meters of the Colchester line ball went through hands and Peter Adeoye Powered through for a well deserved try and his first for Romford. Play was stopped for an injury to Chaplins nose which thankfully looked a lot worse than it was but he could take no further part. The rest of the half was played out with no further score but both teams really going for it and playing some great rugby in very difficult conditions and only last ditch tackles from Piercy, Walters and Osansumi kept Colchester at bay.
Second half playing into the wind went off in a very similar way to the first with both teams very evenly matched and only a bit of bad luck meant Colchester were able to break again and score. Colchester looked to be in again but out of nowhere Tom Madeglia popped up To make a try saving tackle which wowed both sets of supporters. There were some really solid performances from Madden,Petrie,Duffy,Broomfield,Rawlings,Fahy who worked tirelessly in a forward dominated game. Park had some great chances through brakes by Fox, Madden and Duffy but were unlucky not to convert. After a few tough weeks you could really feel the team spirit out there the boys gave it there all and really matched A side with several academy players. Special mentions to Billy,Dan,Tom Jospeh and Pete for all playing out of position and doing a fantastic job.
Well done to all
