Chingford U16s vs Romford U16s

After two league victory’s, Romford made the journey over to Chingford in the hope of continuing their fine form with a first cup victory of the season.

The match started briskly and it was clear from the off that this was going to be a highly competitive match. Chingford are a tough team to break down and are strong defensively so Romford were going to need to work hard to have any success today. Romford buoyed by their recent wins were clearly up for the challenge and when Chingford were penalised by the referee Romford took advantage and sent the ball across the pitch to Torez Polius who managed to ground it in the corner for Romford’s first try. Romford were in control and another penalty saw Romford batter the Chingford defence, an outstanding pick and go from Harry Runham saw him nearly burst through but the continued recycle of the ball by the Romford forwards saw it make it’s way to Torez Polius who again managed to score under the posts to put Romford ahead at the break.

HT: Chingford 0-10 RGP

The second half continued in much the same way – with every player making a huge contribution to todays result. The next score came from kick off and caught Chingford unprepared, the gather from Torez Polius and offload saw Rae McGuinness speed down the wing to touch down in the corner for Romford’s third try. Chingford did manage to get back into the game and replied with a converted try but when Romford turned over yet another scrum, the boys passed the ball across the line to Michael Courtney who weaved through the defenders to place it down for a try which was converted by Ryan Blinkhorne. The next try came from a Romford scrum and Tayo Adewole attacked the defence and split it in half to score – he was just too strong to be stopped, again Ryan Blinkhorne converted. Romford finished off the game again punishing Chingford from a penalty, with Ray McGuinness grounding the ball in the corner after some deft handling across the pitch. Six trys scored but full praise should go to each and every player because they all worked so hard for each other today. It was teamwork that achieved todays result and this really shone through. Well done boys!
