Romford U16s vs Dagenham U16s

A bright blue sky welcomed Dagenham U16s to Crow Lane. After Romford’s encouraging victory against Barnet Elizabethans the week before Romford were hoping to make it two in a row.

The game started well, Dagenham were determined to put on a good display and were tackling well but it wasn’t long until Sam Slatford spotted a gap in Dagenham’s defensive line. He burst through and raced forward, supported by Rae McGuinness who gathered the ball from Slatford’s pass with Luke Metcalf finishing the move to dot the ball down in the corner. Romford were in control of the game, the forwards were working hard in defence and not allowing Dagenham to gain any ground. Romford continued to press and were rewarded with a scrum in Dagenham’s 22. Owen Flower at Scrum Half gathered the ball and dodged two defenders to stretch and ground the ball on the line for Romford’s second score. The final score of the half was taken by Michael Courtney whose weaving run allowed him to touch down over the line with Jack Bennett converting the score to put Romford 17 points clear at the break.

HT: RGP 17-0 Dagenham

The second half continued in much the same way. Dagenham did make some headway at the beginning of the second half managing to score their only try of the game. This only made the Romford boys work harder though and they were unlucky not to score more try’s in this second period. The final points were scored by Tayo Adewole whose speed from a penalty left the Dagenham defenders standing as he ran through to ground the ball for Romford’s fourth and final try of the match. A positive team performance to make it two wins in a row for the Romford boys. A great team effort today. Well done boys!
