Medway Friendly 2021

Firstly we need to acknowledge and thank Medway Rugby Club for agreeing to play Romford on such short notice. After Basildon pulled out of a League game set for 19/09/2021 due to numbers Medway stepped in and offered to play us and what a game it was to shake off the cobwebs and get back into it.
The first 10 min was dominated by Medway who kept Romford on the defence and showed great discipline throughout the game. Medway eventually broke through and put some points on the board with a brilliant try under the posts which was easily converted to a 7-0 lead.

Romford pushed back however a bit rusty and frantic play at times they managed to break the incredible defensive line of Medway allowing Zak to dot down Romfords first try for the season, Ben made easy work of the conversion adding the 2 to make it 7-7, now we had a game on our hands, both teams showed great heart and determination throughout and every single player on the pitch threw their every effort into the game. A penalty kick just outside the 22 offered Romford the opportunity to take the lead, however it was pulled just right of the posts and the score remained 7-7.

Injuries was plentiful and poor Karla had to patch, Ice and wrap boys continuedly, in the dying minutes of the match Romford set a Maul, driving it with 3 phases to eventually break through Medway's incredible defence, Shayden manage to get it down and Ben converted to secure a 7-14 win for Romford.

In short this was not about winning or loosing for Romford, it was an amazing opportunity to get 18 months of anticipation, eagerness, frustration and passion for the game, the team and for self, out on the pitch again. It was a great opportunity to put ourselves against an AMAZING team like Medway to test ourselves.
