Tough fixtures with Saracens

Romford played hosts to Saracens in their 1st fixture of the new season

Romford 19 - 5 Saracens A

Romford 1st game of the season was against a very large Saracens side with plenty of boys at their disposal
Having not played so far this season it was going to be interesting to see how the boys started - Romford hit the ground running and were soon into their stride as if they have never been away - the forwards drove upfield and after several phases released flanker Connor Madden to bulldoze over for the 1st try of the season ( conv Horsman ) - Romford then came under some pressure from Sarries as they came flying back but were hit by the Romford wall and the boys never gave an inch - playing 3 x20 minutes on a hot sunny day gave the boys a few much needed breaks - the 2nd try came as the forwards again after some strong counter rucking won the ball and released the backs for it to go through all the hands and flying winger Seyi Ajeigbe to scorch past his opposite number to score under the posts ( conv Horsman )
In the 2nd half the try of the day was like watching England - the pack won their line out and fly half Rian Horsman put in a delicate chip ( that George Ford would of been proud of ) and winger Ajeigbe to leap higher than his opposite number to score his 2nd and Romfords third of the morning.
To Sarries credit they never gave up and scored a fully deserved try after their big powerful pack drew in the home defence for them to move the ball wide and score ( conv missed )
As they gave was drawing to a close unfortunately Lamar Douglas sustained a nasty injury and the game was brought to a close

We all wish Lems a speedy and full recovery..

Romford 21- 5 Saracens B

The 2nd game of the day saw the remaining players also have their 1st run out of the season against Sarries B
The boys again were awesome with the ball moving around the pitch with some great off loading and support play - after Romford had made their way down the pitch only for Timi to be tackled into touch just short of the line - Romford won the resulting line out and with the ball moved through the back Horsman darted under the posts to open the scoring ( conv Horsman ) - This put Romford on the front foot and again were soon on the attack with some great passing - the 2nd half started with Romford moving the ball through hands which was a pleasure to watch and debutant Luca Valentini weaved through the entire Sarries covering defence to score under the posts to extend Romfords lead ( Conv Paddy Tighe )
Romfords intensity never let up and after defending in their 22 for several minutes turned the ball over for the other debutant Timi to bull doze through several would be tacklers to score his 1st for the team ( conv Tighe )
again Sarries continued to attach to the end and were rewarded for their efforts with a score in the corner just before the end

In all as it was the 1st run out for the entire squad it was a great team effort against a very good Sarries side - if the boys carry on with this intensity then they should be in for another good season - well done bys
