Romford hosted Chelmsford in the 1st round of the Essex Cup at the 'Fortress'

Having been on the end of a narrow loss at the end of the end of last season in monsoon like conditions - this time around it was perfect Rugby weather - Romford knew that with the larger Chelmsford pack they would have to put their bodies on the line in order to have any ball - o'bhoy that's exactly what they done, from the off ( if we could catch a ball ) Romford never took a backward step throughout the whole game and within the first 5 minutes it was Romford that got on the score sheet through the forwards after working their way up the pitch No8 Billy Davison handed off 3 players to score under the posts ( conv Horsman ) - Romford were soon on the attack again with their mobile forwards making inroads into the Chelmsford 22 before a shot pop pass from Dan Fox saw the marauding Charlie Rawlings burst through un-opposed for Romfords 2nd, not to be out done the backs were soon joining in and with the ball going from side to side at pace it wasn't long before Attridge feed full back Luca Valentini to take 2 defenders over the line with him for Romfords 3rd of the morning ( conv Horsman ), by now the entire Romford team were throwing their bodies on the line to anything that moved and often drove the larger Chelmsofrd pack back to allow the backs to have a free run at will, the next score was just before half time when full back Valentini caught a Chelmsford clearance on the half way line and fed the lightening winger Seyi Adeigbe to out pace the covering defence to score in the corner and go into half time with a healthy lead of 24-0
The second half started in the same vain as the 1st ended with Romford in complete control in every aspect of the game, never letting Chelmsford settle as soon as the superb Romford pack won a ball it released the awesome backs to again run riot, a quickly taken penalty was moved down the line for Valentini to dart under the posts for Romfords 5th of the morning ( conv Horsman ) - Chelmsford never let up with their intensity but each time were met with the Romford wall and often being turned over saw Adeigbe claim his second and thrird down the left wing using his pace and power to run over and through the covering defence to score under the posts ( convs Hormsan x 2 ).
With a couple of minutes left Chelmsford kicked off and with Romford failing to claim the restart their powerful No8 caught the ball at pace and ran in to score a well deserved consolation try ( conv )

All in all the whole squad played some quite brilliant Rugby through the morning against a very Powerful Chelmsford side and fully deserved their win
