Heartbreak at the end

Romford 22 - 25 Westcliff

Romford hosted Westcliff in the 1/4 final of the Essex Cup - having pipped them by a couple of points last season Westcliff were wanting revenge - from the outset Westcliff came storming into Romford and before they knew what had hit them Westcliff scored 2 early tries - from this Romford had to re-group before the game ran away as for the 1st 10 minutes of the game the home side failed to get into it - slowly Romford clawed their way back and it wasn't long after that following some good interplay from the forwards and backs saw winger Seyi Ajeigbe dive over in the corner to reduce the arrears. Romford were soon on level terms when after a quickly taken tap penalty prop Joseph Piercy stormed through with 3 defenders hanging off him, just before half time with Romford on the attack the ball was charged down and the Westcliff players ran through to score and regain the lead-
The second half was also end to end with some ferocious tackling from both sides but it was Romford who drew 1st blood, With Westcliff on the attack in Romfords half Henry Attridge ripped the ball and set off up field and outpaced all in his wake to score under the posts and take a small 2 point lead - now with the heads up Romford where soon on the attack again and from a resulting scrum the ball was worked down the line to winger Lamar Douglas to score in the corner and extend Romfords lead - having played Westcliff on numerous occasions the boys knew that the opposition would come storming back and that's exactly what the did, after their pack made inroads into the Romford 22 the ball was shipped down the blind side for the winger to score in the corner and reduce Romfords lead to just 2 points with 10 minutes to go - for the remainder of the game Westcliff threw everything at the home side and after being camped on the Romford line for 5 minutes the ball was finally moved out wide for their winger to dive in the corner and for Westcliff to take the spoils
All in all it was a ferocious game between 2 very evenly matched sides and we wish Westcliff all the best in the Semi Final
