U15's Romford v Hertford

Romford 17 - 19 Hertford

Romford travelled to Hertford for the 1st time ever with a few boys missing due to injury & sickness - this left the squad with only 18 fit boys that where raring to go - on a very blustery day at Hertford Romford played into the gale force like wind in the 1st half and were under the cosh for the first 10 minutes as Hertford picked and went from the base of several rucks very well and it wasn't long before they opening the scoring near the posts ( converted ) , Romford were finding it difficult to secure any clean ball for the backs to use, Romford did eventually work their way up field after a few penalties, from a resulting Penalty just outside Hertfords 22mtr line Billy Davison took a quick tap penalty drew 2 players before off loading to prop Charlie Rawlings to dive over and open Romfords account - Hertford came straight back at Romford and used their big quick centre to crash through on 2 separate occasions to extend their lead to 19-5 at half time - the 2nd half saw Romford playing with the wind and several boys playing out of position - Romford used the wind to good effect as their forwards drove at the heart of the Hertford defence and used the backs to make ground out wide - with Romford camped in the Hertford half for long periods it wasn't long before a maul from about 15 mtrs out was drive over the line at pace by the entire pack for Dominic Chaplin to be carried over and ground the ball ( converted Dew )
Romford now threw everything at Hertford and made their was down field and with 5 minutes to go centre Owen Dew crashed over just to the side of the posts to reduce Hertfords lead to just 2 points - unfortunately for the visitors the whistle blew a couple of minutes later to end a very entertaining game played in superb spirit
A very big well done to all the boys for a great game of Rugby especially the boys that helped out by playing in unfamiliar positions
