U15's - Spicy Romford stun Saffron

Romford travelled to Saffron Walden for the 1st time ever for the Essex Cup 1/4 final - having never played the hosts before and looking at their results a tough game was expected, from the off Romford only had one thing in mind, run the ball as much as possible
In the opening couple of minutes some great handling saw fullback Luca Valentini take the ball at pace and brush aside any defenders in his way to open the scoring ( conv Horsman ). Romford then caught the restart and worked their way back upfield and will the ball going through hands up popped winger Lamar Douglas to crash over in the corner, ( converted ) try No3 followed almost immediately within the opening 15 minutes when lovely interaction between both forwards and backs saw the ball go from side to side before flanker Connor Madden received a pass from Douglas before running through a gap in the defence to score under the posts ( conv Horsman ) . The home side finally started to get into the game and work their way down field into the Romford 22mte zone and after a couple of quickly taken penalties saw their pack drive over and claim a deserved try ( conv ) . Romford for the disappointment of conceding a try took their frustration out on the home team with some great free flowing rugby, again with the ball being kept alive from hands it was just before half time when fullback Valentini popped up again to barrell over for Romfords 4th of the morning and go into half time with a lead of 26-7.
The 2nd half started with many changes throughout the side but playing down hill Romford kept up the same intensity and scored within the 1st minute when both forwards and backs linking well for prop Charlie Rawlings to crash over. with Romford now playing wonderful rugby another score was inevitable , the next two were scored by the lightning winger Seyi Ajiegbe in the corner ( conv 1 x Horsman ) after leaving his opposite number floundering. Romford now in complete control never let the home team out of their half and try No8 soon followed when the forwards motored towards the Walden and the ball being fed into the backline up popped Horsman to dive over in the corner ( conv Horsman ) - with time almost up one last surge by the Romford pack through the heart of the home defence saw no8 Billy Davison crash over for Romford 9th and final try to end an awesome display of running rugby
