Romford 22 v 22 Brentwood

Romford hosted neighbours Brentwood on a cold and wet morning, as both sides had players that knew each other well a tough game was expected – Romford got off to the best possible start as their forwards drove up field and with the backs going one way then across the field the other winger Tyler Ford dived in at the corner to open the scoring, the second wasn’t far in coming as Romford played some good rugby in muddy conditions and up popped prop Charlie Rawlings to barrel over near the posts ( conv Ajeigbe ) – tempers then started to flair between both sides and it was decided to give the boys 10 minutes to cool down before play resumed – the remainder of the half was played in better spirit without further score – the 2nd half saw Romford switch many of the boys to different positions and this effected the fluency of the game – Brentwood got back into the game as their forwards used several drives near the line to eventually crash over – from the restart Romford made inroads into the Brentwood half and this time it was the Forwards that held onto the ball and Callum Fahy crashed over to move into a 17-5 lead, the game ebbed and flowed from end to end and Brentwood were next to score in the corner to reduce the lead 17-12, Romford then from inside their own half launched an attack from their scrum and No8 Billy Davison picked up the ball and set off upfield to move inside the 5 mtr line and after some great handling Davison deservedly popped up on the end and crashed over in the corner and Romford lead 22-10 with 5 minutes to go - Romford then fell completely asleep and let Brentwood back into the game as the opposition moved the ball down the line and a late tackle ended with a penalty try being awarded ( conv ) to reduce the lead 22-17 with 2 minutes to go – Brentwood reclaimed the restart and with their tails up kept the ball alive and worked their way upfield and with the last play of the day saw their winger dive over in the corner to bring the scores level and end an entertaining game ……..
