Romford 24 v 12 Old Dartfordians

Romford travelled across the water for a friendly against Old Dartfordians for the 1st time ever -
again with low numbers Romford could only muster 16 players against the Oppo's large squad, with Romford playing with the wind behind them in the 1st half started to play the free flowing rugby we have become accustomed to but due to several handling errors early on it started as a scrappy affair - as soon as Romford got into their stride the inter play between forwards and backs was good, the forwards won and secured ball close to Darts line and with a quick pass to the charging Charlie Rawlings he crashed over to open the scoring - ( unfortunately soon after in play Lamar Douglas hurt his knee again and left the field - wishing him a speedy recovery ) with the pack having stepped up their intensity 10 fold from last week it was long before try No 2 came, again more good hands saw Romford move within 10 mtrs of the home sides line before Darts conceded a penalty and being quickly taken saw No8 Billy Davison bull doze over ( conv Fox ) , the best try of the half was next up as Romford kept the ball alive from side to side before being worked back down the middle for the marauding Callum fahy to score an excellent deserved try under the posts with the last play of the half ( conv Fox ) and lead 19-0 at half time
Romford playing into the wind in the 2nd half now with no subs knew they would have to spend lots of time defending - both teams tried in difficult conditions to keep the ball alive and Old Darts were soon back in the game as their pack drove towards the Romford line and crashed over ( conv, ) the next passage of play saw Romford play awesome rugby - with quickly taken penalty on half way the forwards moved the ball ( like watching the All Blacks ) through hands from Davison, Petrie & Madden before offloading to Medaglia to sprinted clear to score and increase the lead to 24-7, Old Darts came straight back at Romford and again plowed down the middle of the park and got another fully deserved try in the corner with 5 minutes left - that was then the last real action of the game as both sides battered each other without giving away any yards - all in all a lot better performance from the forwards giving more time for the backs to play Rugby
