A slow start to the season

With another new season upon us, the U15’s took a short trip over to Upper Clapton. It was a bright, sunny morning and the early kick off was soon to wake them up! Unfortunately Upper Clapton were quicker off of the mark than the U15’s and in the first 15 minutes of the game they scored 4 trys (one converted) to put the score at 22-0 but this galvanized Romford and they began to put into practice what they had learnt over the long hours of summer training and they started to work there way back into the game. They were unlucky not to profit from a long visit to Upper Clapton’s 22 as they just couldn’t manage to get the ball over the try line despite sustained pressure. They were finally rewarded when a slick passing move across the pitch enabled Luke Metcalf to dot the ball down in the corner, Sam Slatford missed the very difficult conversion but Romford ended the half with the score at 22-5.

After the half time break the game became a much more even affair. Although Upper Clapton managed to score a break away try Romford rucked harder, were quicker to the break down and defended more robustly and eventually another period of pressure resulted in another passing move to the wing where Lee Harris crossed the line to score a fine team try. So a tough first game of the season but there is much more to come from Romford’s U15’s!
