Romford’s first league game of the season was a tough test. Even though it was a late kick off Romford had prepared to give Wanstead a good game. Unfortunately the U15s faced a well organised and determined Wanstead team who were not prepared to give. Romford started briskly and had some early possession but by the middle of the first half Wanstead had three tries and one conversion against them. Romford didn’t let this deter them though and they began to get some possession and press the Wanstead U15s for a score. Romford were denied a try when they couldn’t manage to ground the ball over the line but they still pressed on and eventually Owen Flower managed to plant the ball next to post after darting through a wall of Wanstead forwards, the try was converted by Sam Slatford.
HT: RGP 7-17 Wanstead
The beginning of the second half continued much the same way. Romford spent the first part of the half pressing hard but struggling to make many metres. Unfortunate handling errors and the inability to the get the ball from the forwards to backs meant they were unable to attack Wanstead and add any more points to the score. In contrast Wanstead were able to counter attack and managed to score five more trys in this period.
Final score:
