So very nearly…

A bright Sunday morning welcomed Romford’s U15s to Harlow and the prospect of a very competitive match beckoned. It was always going to be a closely fought match and Romford started the first half brightly, Harlow put the pressure on though and an uncontested lineout led to Harlow’s first unconverted try of the game. This galvanized Romford though and they began to get some possession but Harlow’s strength in the scrum led to another unconverted score shortly before half time.

A different Romford side came out after the break, from the kick off Romford realised that using the width of the park would result in a score. A sublime passing move to the wing enabled Torez Polius to dance through Harlow’s defence and run half the length of the pitch to score a fabulous try. Romford decided to do the same again but this time two excellent passes to the wing enabled Tom O’Meara to burst through to dot the ball down under the posts. Game on! With the score at 10-10 Romford were on the attack and began to press, unfortunately the game was not for the winning. Twelve consecutive penalties from the referee in Harlow’s favour enabled them to grab the vital try that would seal the game. Romford’s continuous attack seemed to be thwarted by the sheer amount of penalties against them and Harlow took the win. All credit to the Romford boys though, they kept their cool, carried on battling and never gave up – the first win of the season is edging ever closer!
