Romford U15s v Chelmsford B U15s

The U15s should sleep well tonight! They welcomed Chelmsford B who were looking for a result but at Crow Lane on this bright but windy Sunday morning it was clear that Romford were looking for back to back wins and were ready for them.

Romford started well and the game was evenly matched until Chelmsford managed to spot a gap and score the first try of the day. This seemed to settle Romford though and the U15’s started to pass the ball around and put some pressure on their opposition. They moved the ball up the park and eventually just a few metres from the try line Shaun Kerr picked up the ball from the back of a ruck and pushed his way through to ground the ball for Romford’s first try of the day. Directly from the restart Romford were determined to keep up the attack and some good positional awareness from the Romford backs enabled a pass to Ryan Pooley on the wing, his speed and footwork allowed him to dodge the last Chelmsford back and race over half the length of the pitch to touch down for Romford’s second try of the day. Chelmsford started to get more of a foothold in the game though and began to pressure Romford but the U15’s defense managed to prevent Chelmsford grounding the ball over the try line on several occasions but unfortunately on the stroke of half time Chelmsford did eventually score a converted try.

HT: RGP 10-12 Chelmsford B

The second half of the game told a different story. Romford seemed to start with a fresh confidence. Some great passing and continual teamwork enabled Tayo Wole to ground the ball in the corner for a third try. Romford were so strong in the ruck and in the scrum that they were becoming hard to handle and another passing move to the wing saw Tom O’Meara use his speed to pass the Chelmsford backs and touch down for a fabulous fourth try. An accurate pass to Michael Sultana in the centre of the pitch saw him punch a hole through the Chelmsford defence, hand off two Chelmsford backs and go on a strong run to ground the ball for a fantastic fifth try which Sam Slatford converted. Lee Harris then decided to get in on the act dodging, weaving and ducking under tackles to score a sensational sixth try! Chelmsford were still pressing though and did manage to score two more trys as the game drew to a close but Romford were clear winners. An exciting game to watch and a team effort that saw every available squad member play a part in this excellent win – well done boys!
