Romford U15s v Upminster U15s

A cold, damp morning welcomed Upminster U15s to Crow Lane for our latest fixture and Romford were ready for a stern test.

The game started brightly for Romford and although Upminster got the first converted score, Romford were matching Upminster in attack and defence. It wasn’t long before some slick passing reached Michael Courtney who managed a jinking run down the wing, evading the Upminster tackles to touch down under the posts. Sam Slatford converted the try and the scores were level. Upminster scored another unconverted try against the run of play but Romford were still working hard in attack and it wasn’t long before Billy Lloyd spotted a gap and managed to split the Upminster defence, racing down the pitch to score Romford’s second try and his first try for Romford & Gidea Park. Well done Billy! Upminster would score again just before the break but this half was very evenly contested.

HT: RGP 12-17 Upminster

Upminster made a lot of changes for the second half of the game and in the end it was their fresh legs that made all the difference to the final result. Upminster managed to score four trys in this period but credit should be given to the Romford boys who never gave up and kept working hard. Romford had periods of sustained pressure that they just could not convert to points. They did manage one more try of their own though when Nelson Fragjaj managed to force himself over the line from a penalty to score Romford’s third try of the game and his first for Romford & Gidea Park. Well done Nelson! This try was duly converted by Sam Slatford. All credit should go to the Romford boys though who carried on battling throughout, not the result that we would all have liked, but a good game nevertheless. Well done boys!
