Bright sunshine – beautiful day

Romford U15s made the short trip over to Chingford for their last friendly of the season. It was a beautiful sunny day and the game was soon under way.

Romford were prepared to work hard today even though the ground was hard and the sun was hot but Chingford seemed to edge Romford at the start of the game and they managed to score three trys in quick succession. Romford began to work themselves into the game though and they soon had some reward for their endeavour as Torez Polius managed to break through the Chingford defence to race down the field and touch down under the posts for Romford’s first try of the game which Sam Slatford managed to convert. At this point Romford seemed to have the answers and it wasn’t long before an excellent offload from Luke Metcalf sent Michael Courtney weaving through the Chingford defence to touch down for Romford’s second try, again converted by Sam Slatford. A very close half – Romford were showing promise.

Romford spent large periods in the Chingford half at the beginning of the second period but they just couldn’t manage to break down the Chingford defence. Full blooded tackles, strong rucking and sustained pressure just wouldn’t convert to points today. Chingford’s substitutions and fresh legs in the heat eventually won the day for them and the last ten minutes of the half saw Chingford score three trys to win the game. All credit should go to the Romford boys though who carried on battling throughout, not the result that we would all have liked, but a good game nevertheless. Well done boys!
