Its Tough at the Top

Having won promotion at a canter last season Romford were rightly promoted to the top tier in Essex Rugby, Romford's first game of the season was straight into League action against one of the very best sides in the county - not having played them for a couple of seasons the boys didnt quite know what to expect - after the first 10 minutes of chasing shadows the boys certainly had to wake up after going 12-0 down - once the boys got hold of the ball and went through several phases and made their way down field the forwards made good progress to Callum Fahy to score in the corner and give Romford renewed hope - once the boys settled down it became a very physical battle in the middle of the park with Manor off loading well in the tackle but Romofrd matching them in the loose - the second half started with Manor 12-5 up and playing with the wind behind them but it was Romford taking the attack to Manor and playing most of the game in their half, from a resulting scrum the Manor scrum half stole a loose ball and set off his backs to run from inside their half to open up a greater lead - not quite recovering from that Romford gave away a penalty on half way and saw the same scrum half take a quick penalty and run unopposed to score between the posts - Romford then threw the kitchen sink at Manor and got their just rewards when from the back on a scrum No8 Billy Davison crashed over with two defenders hanging off of him -
The game ended on that note but the boys can be very proud of their efforts having match Manor for all of the game barring the first 10 minutes
