Westcliff to Strong for Romford

Westcliff 40 v 7 Romford

Romford travelled to Westlciff for their second League game of the season

Romford were soon defending straight from the start as the Westcliff pack made inroads into the Romford half where they secured quick clean ball and set their big backs off to constantly run and make good progress into the Romford half, it seemed only a matter of time before the home side got on the score board as this was the case as a good move down the backs enabled their winger to score, this was soon followed by another quick 2 tries and Romford could not get out of their own half and the constant tackling soon started to take effect, with the boys heads starting to drop a little and the thoughts of a long day at the office the boys started to make their way up the field only for westcliff to somehow turn the ball over and move the ball again through their powerful backs to score another couple before the half time whistle
The second half started with Romford already having to make lots of changes through injuries playing down the slope and soon started to get into the game and play some good attacking Rugby lead through their Captain - Westlciff still pressed at every opportunity and scored another couple to take a 40-0 lead but Romford grew in confidence and kept pressing forward and got thier just rewards after a quickly taken penalty went through several phases and moved the ball down the line for Centre Rian Horsman to pop up at the end and dive over for a deserved try ( and conversion ) - their gave the boys renewed hope but although their was no more score they matched Westcliff throughout the second half - the boys showed great character and never gave up playing Rugby against a very big physical side that will be up their towards the tops of the league throughout the season.

Westcliff B 21 v 22 Romford B
Before the League game both sides were able to put out a friendly fixture to ensure both squads got some valuable match time - Romford were soon on the attack and with the ball going through the backs Max Mclellan scored in the cormer - Westliff hit back straight away with a couple of tries to take the lead, again Romford hit back almost immediately with the opposite winger Alex Walters touching down - the second half started in the same vain with Mclellan scoring under the posts before second row Dominic Chaplin extended the lead to 8 points with only a couple of minutes to go - Westcliff never gave up and scored with the last play of the game but it wasnt quite enough as Romford held on to win by point
