Romford Stun League Champions at the '' Park ''

Romford hosted the Several times league & County Cup Champions at the Fortress ''Park '' for the 3rd League game of the season - having faired not to well in the previous 2 league games Romford knew they would have to play out of the skins just to keep in contact with their opposition
Having had a very physical warm up the boys for once were ready from the start - straight from the kick off Romford ran hard and straight at the big southend team, from a resulting 1st scrum of the day Romford won it against the head and set off their lightening backs to feed the ball down the line and for the Seyi Ajeigbe to open the scoring and stun everybody in the crowd - Romford then went straight back on the attack from the re-start and after some great work from the forwards securing good quick ball again set off the backs for Richard Avbunudje to power through for Romford's second ( conv Horsman ) . Southend then seemed to wake up and worked their way upfield with some good play to score in the corner, the resulting play then centred around the middle of the park as neither side gave an inch, just before the interval Romford had a scrum on half way and instead of kicking to touch to end the half No8 Billy Davison went down the blind side beating 2 defenders before off loading winger Lamar Douglas to run over his opposite number from half way and score under the posts ( conv Horsman ) and for Romford to enter half time 19-10 up

The second half started with Romford playing up the slight slope the boys carried on with the intensity from the first half - Southend pressured Romford from the start but a loose ball out wide was snapped up by the covering Romford defence from inside their own 22 and between Douglas & Ajeigbe between them kicked the ball back down field and for Ajeigbe scooped up the ball on half way to run in un-opposed to score under the posts ( conv horsman ) - with their tails up Romford never let up nad were playing some great physical rugby, their forwards moved through the gears and again set the backs up for Rian Horsman to put in a cross field kick for Ajeigbe to claim a superb hat-trick ( conv Horsman ) and start to put Romford out of side - Southend being Champions never stopped and worked their was back into the game with a couple of well worked tries through their back line - with Romford still in control and playing the game at their pace soon won a penalty of the oppositions 10 metre line but owing to the confidence running through the Romford team Horsman decided to test himself and go for the posts - this seemed to be the nail in the coffin as the ball sailed through the posts to again extend the home teams lead with time running out ( 36-20 ) with Southend now trying to run the ball from all areas they had to clear their lines after some great work from the Romford pack but them on the back foot inside their 22 - Southend then used their kick and chase up field but didnt realise on winger Richard Avbunudje taking the loose ball on his own 22 metre line and then decide to take on the entire Southend defence as a one man wrecking display to beat the entire Southend team to score under the posts ( conv Hormsan ) and seal the game for Romford - Southend to their credit still kept on moving the ball and score in the corner with effectively the last play of the game,

The Romford boys can be extremely proud of their efforts today, having matched and beat the best team in Essex - every single boys from those that played to those that supported and watched can be proud of their efforts today - their was no single player of the day, the team played as a team -and were unstoppable
