Final Disappointment........

Romford 5 v 36 Southend

Romford travelled to Sunny Basildon where they faced a Rampant Southend side in the Essex County Cup Final - from the off Romford tried to take the game to Southend but the first try was their own undoing and they tried to run the ball from inside their own half only for the ball to fall into Southend hands and run in un-opposed to open the scoring in the first couple of minutes - the rocked Romford but then laid siege into Southend as the forwards constantly made inroads into the Southend half but failed to go over the line, Southends 2nd try was scored out wide as they dragged the covering Romford defence from one side to the other and scored under the posts, No3 was a carbon copy of the 2nd as Romford failed to clear thier lines and the Big Southend Forwards made in roads before unleashing their backs - Romford again set about Southend and never let up with their intensity and put in some crunching tackles and the forwards often turned over Southend ball - with the forwards winning ball it enabled the backs to try and get behind the Southend line but only last gasp counter rucking stopped the Romford attacks, with Time running out in the 1st half Southend score again in the corner to take a lead of 24-0 into half time
The second half started with Romford playing with the wind behind them and threw everything at Southend but their defense was strong and most of the first 15 minutes was played in midfield before Southend took a quick penalty on Romfords 22mtr line and their big forward chrged through untouched to score under the posts - to Romfords credit they never gave in and constantly hit Southend with everything they had but Southends last try was scored out wide by their forwards although it looked short of the line
with time running out it was Romford that had the last laugh as the forwards rucked and mauled from inside their own half to Southends 22mtr line and then set off the ball down the back line to full back Seyi Adeigbe to dance past 3 defenders to score in the corner

The whole squad can be very proud of their efforts against one of the best sides in the South of Engalnd - every boy stood up and their efforts have been rewarded in a super season.
