A well earned first win of the season

Tonight Romford’s U14’s should sleep well. We welcomed a Chingford team who, although a couple of players short of a full side, were ready for a tough game and looking for a win.

Chingford started well and earned themselves the first try and conversion of the game but that seemed to settle Romford and the U14’s started to pass the ball around and our forwards physicality showed as they rucked hard to gain possession. Romford scored 5 try’s in the first half of the game, Ryan Page, Luke Metcalf, Michael Courtney and Tom O’Meara all touching down over the whitewash to bag the points for Romford, there were also two conversions from Ryan Blinkhorne.

The second half of the game was a much tougher test but the work that Romford had put in in the first half of the game paid off. Chingford scored the first try of the second half and put pressure on Romford’s defense. There were some try saving tackles by fullback Torez Polius who regained possession for Romford and slowly but surely the U14's moved their way up the field, some blistering runs by Michael Sultana and Ryan Page cutting through Chingford’s defensive line. It’s hard to single out players though as the whole game was a team effort and all of the boys worked hard to put into practice what they had learnt on the training field. There were three more try’s from Michael Courtney, Bobby Watts and Luke Metcalf and a conversion from Ryan Blinkhorne to seal the win for Romford. Well done boys – a well earned first win of the season.
