Today was a tough day on the pitch for our Romford boys. It was an early Sunday morning start, Romford had a few missing players and a long journey ahead, but they prepared to give Ipswich a good game. Unfortunately the boys faced an Ipswich team that were well drilled and strong and from the beginning of the game they pressed hard and fast and were soon well up on the scoreboard.
This, however, does not tell the full story. Romford scrummed well, the boys turned over a fair number of Ipswich scrums, Romford mauled well and forced Ipswich back. Romford moved up the field seeking that elusive try and came close several times but unfortunately it was not to be as Ipswich always managed to hit back on the break.
The boys didn’t give up though and they stuck together as a team, in the second half Romford tackled well, Ipswich scored fewer tries and by the end of the half the boys had a glimpse of two tries for themselves. Luke Metcalf and Tom O’Meara were only denied by the Ipswich fullback. So it was a tough day but Romford can be hold their heads up having given Ipswich a good game.
