A sunny October morning made for a very pleasant start to the day as Romford U14’s made the journey to Rochford. The first half started brightly and straight away Romford put pressure on the Rochford team forcing them back into their own 22 but Rochford rallied and managed to score the first unconverted try of the game. This galvanized Romford though and they began to put the pressure on again, a period of crash ball for Romford sucked Rochford into rucking for possession and some slick passing moves enabled Tom O’Meara to race for the line and score Romford’s first try of the game, Sam Slatford’s conversion giving Romford a 7-5 lead at halftime.
After the half time break Romford U14’s clearly felt this game was there for the taking, a rumbling run by James Mimm’s was unstoppable and after evading several tackles he took Romford’s second unconverted try. Rochford responded though and quickly scored again but this didn’t deter the U14’s, another period of crash ball created more space and again some smooth passing to the wing allowed Ade Olaleye to bulldoze his way through the opposition and score a third Romford try. The U14’s now had the bit between their teeth, they were quicker to rucks, stronger in the maul and a strong scrum led to another passing move to the wing where the forwards mauled the ball to the line for James Mimm’s to score his second and Romford’s fourth try of the game. All credit to Rochford though they carried on battling and achieved a consolation try in the last play of the game.
The result? This massive team effort from all of the U14’s led to a well-deserved second win of the season – huge congratulations to all of the boys that played today.
