Flawless display secures resounding victory

A dense fog greeted the players as they gingerly made their way for Crow Lane in the hope that the game would not be postponed. Romford were determined to continue their recent good form against a Cheshunt side who earned a narrow victory in the corresponding fixture last year.

The game was only 3 minutes old when James Mimms crashed through a couple of tackles to score the first try of the game. Sam Slatford has been in sparkling form recently and comfortably slotted the conversion.

From the restart Romford were soon back on the attack. A couple of neat passes released Luke Metcalf who sidestepped the fullback with footwork that Fred & Ginger would be proud of.

Romford were now playing with extra verve & confidence and soon added to the score with Tom O’Meara touching down after another impressive Romford scrum being lead superbly by Connor Hardy.

Further tries were added in the 1st half through Luke Metcalf, Sam Slatford & Ade Olayeye who was enjoying his new position on the wing.

Half time:
Romford 38 – 0 Cheshunt

The 2nd half started and Romford were soon on the score board. A fantastic run by Harry Runham released the impressive Luke Metcalf, nobody was catching him today as he sprinted away for a fantastic hat trick.

This was followed shortly afterwards by a mazy run & finish from the impressive Michael Courtney.

Romford were in complete control. The forwards were quick to the rucks & aggressive in the tackle. The backs’ passing was incisive & sharp & handling was secure. Cheshunt had no answer to this constant onslaught but to their credit kept battling away with heart & spirit.

Cheshunt's efforts were finally rewarded with a consolation try. This appeared to inspire the Romford boys who went on to score a further 5 tries through Luke Metcalf, Ade Olaleye, Rokas Steiblys & the powerful Michael Sultana.

Tougher tests are sure to follow. But overall a fantastic performance from every Romford player involved. The coaches & parents could not be prouder.
