A stiff New Year’s test

The New Year saw the U14s travel to Woodford for their first game of 2016. A large travelling squad gave the coaches the opportunity to mix it up but as the boys stepped gingerly onto the pitch after a long two week Christmas break it was clear that they were going to face a tough test. A weak scrum from Romford allowed Woodford to get the ball to the wing to score their first converted try of the game but our U14s did rally. On a wet pitch Romford put a slick move together allowing Tom O’Meara to open his stride and score a great try. Unfortunately despite Romford battling hard they couldn’t find their form, line breaks met with a wall of Woodford boys and Woodford’s speed in the ruck stopped Romford in their tracks. Woodford scored two more tries before half time.

The game didn’t get any easier for the boys in the second half, Woodford managed to score six tries without reply and although Romford tried their best and pressed hard they struggled to break through and make their own mark against a well drilled Woodford team. The morning was full of grey cloud and drizzling rain but I’m sure next weekend the sun will come out and brighten up our Sunday morning!
