First win of the season for Under 14's

Romford Under 14's welcomed Upminster RFC to Crow Lane this Sunday morning

The game started evenly with both teams testing each other out, the away team having slightly more of the ball

It was from an Upminster attack in the ninth minute that the ball was turned over by Sharks captain Louis Ridley and passed along the backs out to wing Brandan Farrant who ran from inside his own half, avoiding a couple of challenges, to score a great opening try.

Three minutes later, full back Harry Wright got in on the act, collecting a punt forward from the visitors inside his own half and racing through the middle to score another excellent try. Farrant converted and the Sharks led by 12-0

Romfords confidence was now high and they started to play some good rugby with centre Dylan Ellis finishing off a good move with another strong run through the defence to score the third try of the morning.

Just before half time, Romford were awarded a scrum well into the Upminster half and the ball was picked up by Sharks number 8 Ronnie Brooks who ran down the wing and under the posts for another good try. Farrant converted and Romford led by an impressive 24-0 at the interval

Expecting a response from visitors, it was the Sharks who started the second half where they had left off with Wright racing through again from way out to score his second try of the morning and then four minutes later completed his personal hat trick of tries. Romford were now leading by 34-0

Despite the scoreline the game was never easy with Upminster making Romford work for everything and the visitors got some reward with a try of their own after 40 mins. Romford 34 Upminster 5

All morning, the Sharks had made some intelligent kicks into the opposition half putting them under pressure and the last try of the morning was a great kick through by Ellis and chased down by Farrant who scored his second try of the day. He converted and the final score was 41-5 to Romford
