Emphatic Victory for Sharks

Romford Under 14’s travelled to Stanford RFC for an Essex Cup game

The Sharks went into the game confident after a 48-12 victory against the same opponents a week earlier and started the game in impressive style

They took the lead in the second minute when good play in midfield saw the ball go out to wing Brandan Farrant and he raced past a couple of Stanford backs to touchdown and open the scoring for Romford

Three minutes later, the Sharks increased their lead when centre Dylan Ellis picked up a pass and ran through to score despite some desperate defending on the try line by the home team.

After ten minutes, second row Ronnie Brooks scored Romfords third try of the morning, dodging a couple of challenges to go under the posts and score after a good pass from captain Louis Ridley. Farrant converted the try and the Sharks led by 17-0

Into the eighteenth minute and Ellis scored his second try after a fine run and then full back Harry Wright joined in the scoring right on half time, picking up the ball in his own half and racing through the middle of the Stanford defence to score. Wright converted his own try and the score at half time was Stanford 0 Romford 29

The home team started the second half a bit brighter and were rewarded with a try of their own to reduce the deficit to 29-5

The Sharks regained control of the game and Ridley scored a fine try, bursting through the opposition to score

Ellis then completed an excellent hat-trick again running through unchallenged after more good teamwork in the middle of the field

Brooks then scored his second try of the morning, chasing down a kick from Ridley and touching down when the Stanford back failed to control the ball. Stanford 5 Romford 44

Last score of the match went to Wright who also scored his second try and it was an emphatic victory for Romford by 49-5
