Good Performance but cup exit for Sharks

Romford Under 14's travelled to Bancroft RFC for the latest round in the Essex Cup

It was the Sharks first game of 2017 but they made a very strong start to the game, dominating their hosts in the early stages with good work from the forwards against a big pack and the backs making some threatening runs

The breakthrough for Romford was well deserved when it came in the seventh minute. Bancroft were under pressure and punted the ball upfield where Sharks full back Harry Wright collected the ball and went on a great run down the wing to score a fine try

Wright nearly scored a second soon after but was stopped just before the line.

It was twenty minutes before the home team got into the Romford half but when they did they made it pay with a good move from their backs and they scored in the corner. The outside centre hit an impressive conversion to give Bancroft the lead.

The second half was close for long periods but the Sharks were coming under increasing pressure and Bancrofts big strong pack were starting to gain an advantage

It wasn't until the seventeenth minute of the second half that the home team increased their lead further with a good try which was duly converted.

Romford never gave up but the physicality of their opponents coupled with the wet conditions was taking its toll and Bancroft ran in a further try right on full time
