Depleted Sharks win on the road

What a super day, well worth travelling with depleted numbers, the sun was shining it was warm and we had rugby to play.
Stanford lent us 6 players (makes a change as we’re usually loaning players out) and we played 11 a side. The “Sharks” started at pace quickly moving toward the try line with some good play from the forwards over several phases ensuring our scrum half scoring (and then converting) the first try. Shortly after kick off the Sharks were on the move again with super combination phases between the forwards and backs to finally send Sam Brindle (Captain for the day) crashing through for our second try (scrum half converting again). The next two tries came after some evenly matched play in the centre of the pitch from both sides – the ball going through hands after a scrum out wide to the wing who swerved past several players close to the side line (apparently, he doesn’t get the ball much, maybe that will now change, he was impressive) to score under the posts – both converted by scrum half. Stanford came back with a quick break on the restart running in a try after a fast ball out to their wing. The final score of the half went to the Sharks, captain of the day, Sam Brindle, another crashing run through from the back of a scrum on 10m line, weaving through the defence to score under the posts converted again by the scrum half.
Second half saw a change of personnel (new 6 from Stanford) and a much more even game, a few good runs from both teams and some superb tackling. First try & conversion went to Stanford, their hooker bulldozing through under the posts scrum half converting. After restart and following some quick ball through hands out to Cameron on the wing – he took off at pace down the pitch stepping out of tackles and handing off players, finally (yes finally) putting the ball down under the posts. Stanford then replied after several phases of play steaming through the defence to score again. Unfortunately, this is where the game had to go to uncontested scrums as our hooker went off injured. Sharks took advantage of this producing some quick ball sending Sam Brindle in for his third try – attempted to convert his own try but due to a “tee malfunction” Luke came up to drop kick and narrowly missed the sticks. The final score of the match went to Stanford ending the game with a score : Stanford 24 – Romford 45.
Excellent play by all, always a pleasure with Stanford, boys even got a roast dinner afterwards – HAPPY DAYS well done boys!

Sam Brindle x3
