Romford made the short trip to Thurrock of division 1 for the second round of the Essex Cup, on a high from a good win in the league Park were keen to push on and keep the winning feeling going.
The game kicked off and Romford seemed to get the best outcome from the coin toss receiving the ball and going up hill. But rugby seemed off the agenda as the referee seemed keen to ensure that every pingable offence was pinged. Once the game got going the first 5 minutes were evenly contested with both teams intent on finding a whole in the others teams defences.
But it was Park who made the first break through with Bailey Finlayson receiving the ball and breaking 3 quarters of the pitch to touch down to open the scoring, RGP 5 Thurrock 0.
Keen not to lose out to the lower league Thurrock continued to press and it wasn't long before they got a try to level the score at 5-5. Romford continued to remain composed and were trying to move the ball about wherever possible.
But this come to their detriment as Thurrock held their scrum and were able to crash the ball over the line, which was converted to take the lead. Thurrock 12 RGP 5.
Romford spent the entire last 5 minutes in the Thurrock 22 but they were strong in defence and assisted by some fumbled passes Thurrock were able hold on. But in all the game play Thayne Henwood found himself at the bottom of the maul injuring his neck.
Due to the severity of the of this injury the game was abandoned leaving the current score as the final result 12-5 in favour of Thurrock. Both teams were very disappointed the game had to end early and the result could have gone either way.
We wish all the best to Thayne and hope that he will be back very soon.
Final Score Thurrock 12 RGP 5
