Park Concede 2 Late Breakaway Tries As They Lose Out To Wanstead

After a lot of changes in recent weeks Park continued to search for that illusive win that just seems to hide away despite better performances week in and week out. Wanstead made the short trip to Crow Lane full of confidence after beating a 13 man Park earlier in the season 34-0.

Romford started the better of the two teams and were rewarded with a try from Tom O'Meara - who played his debut game in the 34-0 trouncing before Christmas. Sam Slatford sent a cross field kick that was taken by George Bristow which was spread wide for O'Meara to finish off under the posts. Try converted by Sam Slatford . (RGP 7 Wanstead 0)

As per usual Park responded by switching off and allowing their opponents back into the game when they failed to react to a deep restart and the visitors touched down in the corner. 7-5 RGP. Unlike last time Romford were well matched to Wanstead's big pack and were winning scrums but a lazy Park conceded again allowing the visitors to take the lead 10-7.

However in the last few weeks Romford have relished from being in a losing position and battled back controlling the next 10 minutes and finished off when Shaun Kerr smartly picked up the ball at 8 to crash over the line to give Park the lead back. Converted by Sam Slatford. RGP 14 Wanstead 10.

Half Time: Romford & GP 14 Wanstead 10

Romford continued to dominate after the break and were in the points again when Park chased well from kick off an Luke Metcalf reacted best to touch down in the corner. Followed by a nice little nudge from Slatford who added the extras with a great kick from the touch line. Giving Park a 11 point lead. (RGP 21 Wanstead 10)

Wansteads soon replied with a well worked forwards try with 3 or 4 phases in Parks 22 which they defended well but Wanstead were able to spread wide and touch down to bring the game within 6 points.

Time ticked on and the visitors showed limited tactics as they had run out of all ideas other than to chuck the ball to the quick kid and hope he could score and credit to the number 13 who exploited the left hand side twice to give Wanstead a 25-21 win.

May be biased as a coach by the better team lost on the day and a really good performance from the boys makes me exceptionally proud.

Final Score: RGP 21 Wanstead 25

Romford & GP - 21
tries: O'Meara, Kerr, Metcalf
cons: Slatford (3)

Wanstead - 25
