STANFORD 31 ROMFORD 52
Romford Under 13’s travelled to Stanford RFC for their latest game
Despite the previous weeks defeat to Braintree in the cup, the Sharks have made a fine start to the season and they quickly got into their stride against the hosts
Captain and wing Brandan Farrant picked up the ball after some nice offloads to race down the line and open the scoring, also converting his own try
Next try for Romford came when good forward work saw flanker Louis Ridley collect the ball near the opponents try line and run through to score. Ross Walters converted the try and the Sharks were 14-0 ahead.
The next score came from the home team when one of their forwards went over to reduce the deficit to 14-5
Back came the Sharks and when the ball was recycled from a ruck and passed through the backs, the ball went to Farrant out wide and he raced through from halfway to score. Again he converted his own try
Stanford then came back again when their speedy centre ran through a number of challenges to score and make the half time score Stanford 10 Romford 21
The home team came out firing in the second half and the Sharks had a poor five minutes where the hosts dangerman sped through a lacklustre defence to score two tries in quick succession, both converted and now Stanford were in the lead by 24-21
Despite going behind, Romford pulled themselves together and raised their game again. Another good move saw the ball passed to debutant Sam Brindle and he ran through to score his first try for the Sharks. Walters converted
Farrant scored his third try of the morning in typical fashion, dodging some attempted tackles to touch down under the posts. Walters again converted
Ridley then crashed over the line for the Sharks sixth try and make the score a more comfortable 40-24
Number 8 Ronnie Brooks was next to score, picking up the ball at the back of a scrum and driving through to score with Walters converting
There was one more try from the hosts when a lapse in midfield saw them go through to score and convert the try
The final score of the morning went to the Sharks when Brooks ran through unchallenged to score and complete a 52-31 victory for Romford
Another good mornings work from the Sharks and despite a bad period after half time, they pulled things around and played some excellent rugby. A special mention to debutants Sam Brindle and Luke Williams who both played really well and look promising for the future
