ROMFORD 12 SAFFRON WALDEN 5
Romford Under 13's welcomed Saffron Walden RFC to Crow Lane this Sunday
The visitors have made a very impressive start to their season with some good results but it was the Sharks that started the better and their forwards quickly got on top
Romfords early pressure paid off when a good forward drive saw the ball go to Robson Burke who offloaded to flanker Louis Ridley, who powered over the line to score. Captain Ross Walters converted and the Sharks were 7-0 ahead
Walden then started to come into the game a bit more, using their whole backline well to try and force a score but the Sharks backs were tackling brilliantly and the whole team defending well.
The away team did finally get through in the sixteenth minute when their left wing avoided a couple of tackles to touchdown in the corner. The score remained 7-5 to Romford at half time
The second half was a real battle with the Sharks determined to hold on to their lead and continuing to defend well as a team as Walden tried to breakthrough. Romford throughout were very strong at set-plays with both scrums and line-outs working well and the Sharks had some good attacking moments of their own as well
The visitors were now under pressure and started to concede penalties and with three minutes to go, Romford number 8 Ronnie Brooks took a quick tap penalty on halfway and ran through unchallenged to score a clinch a great victory for the Sharks
Final Score: Romford 12 Saffron Walden 5
Best performance of the season from the Sharks against very good opposition. They got their lead and fought so hard to maintain it before clinching with a try at the end. Every player was excellent
