Sharks slip to defeat in close game

Romford U13’s travelled to Colchester RFC for their latest game minus a number of players

Despite this, the Sharks started the game well and were rewarded after four minutes when full back Harry Wright picked up the ball in his own half and ran through to score a good try.

The hosts came back at Romford and after nine minutes they levelled the scores when one of their big forwards drove through to score.

Colchester then took the lead, a number of missed tackles from the Sharks resulting in the home team going over the try-line to take the lead 10-5.

After a spell of very even rugby, Romford scored their second try when Wright made another long run to score. Scrum half Ross Walters scored the conversion and the Sharks regained their early lead at 12-10

More weak challenges however resulted in the hosts going over again, this time converting the try to lead 17-12 at the interval.

The Sharks started the second half well and after an attack by Colchester broke down deep in Romfords’ half, Wright collected the ball and ran virtually the length of the field to score. Walters again converted and the Sharks were back in the lead at 19-17

This topsy-turvy game continued when the home team scored another converted try and the score was now 24-19 to Colchester

Wright scored his fourth try of the morning for the Sharks with Brandan Farrant converting and the lead changed yet again with Romford now in the lead at 26-24

Sadly in the last couple of minutes, Colchester broke up a Romford attack near their own try line and their big second row ran the length of the field unchallenged to score and clinch the game by 29 points to 26
