ROMFORD 31 BANCROFT 20
Romford U13’s welcomed Bancroft RFC to Crow Lane for their last home game of the current season
Despite last weeks defeat to Woodford, the Sharks looked in determined mood and made a strong start
In the second minute, the forwards won good ball just on halfway and from the back of the ruck, number 8 Ronnie Brooks picked the ball up and ran half the length of the pitch to score a fine try
The visitors then started to come into the game and from a fine move involving their backs they levelled the scores in the eighth minute
Romford then had a bad spell and Bancroft dominated the play with their big forwards and quick backs and they took the lead with another good try and then increased that lead further to make the score Romford 5 Bancroft 15.
The Sharks came back into the game right on half time when full back Harry Wright, similar to Brooks’s earlier score, picked up the ball in his own half and raced through unchallenged to score another fine try. Scrum half Brandan Farrant added the conversion and the score was Romford 12 Bancroft 15 at half time.
Romford came out in the second half and gave a very strong performance dominating their opponents from the off. Good forward play saw captain Louis Ridley pick the ball up and charge through to score and give Romford the lead at 17-15
Ridley scored again three minutes later with a fantastic try after twice being tackled but getting up and carrying on to score in style under the posts. Farrant again converted and the Sharks led 24-15
The away team were next to score when missed tackles allowed their wing to score and reduce the deficit to 24-20
Last score of the day was left to Ridley, who made a run through the Bancroft defence and despite literally having his shirt pulled from his back remained strong and drove through to score. Farrant scored the final conversion and the Sharks were the victors by 31-20
A fine team performance from Romford against good opponents
