We were visited by Bancroft and South Woodem Ferris this week with the boys playing SWF first, then the 2 Bancroft teams. Romford had a full line up for a change and this was vital as William Oliver came off injured after a great first half display. Having worked hard on defence in training this week, the boys showed no mercy. Their line speed was imense, rushing up and forcing turnover after turn over. Riley Claxton-Smith, Jimmy Doman and George Hiller were all in for a hatrick, but Max Salmon stole the show with a brace and some sterling defence. It finished 12-6 in tries, pretty impressive margin at this age group.
The 1st game against Bancroft was a disaster. It seemed as if the boys had just put too much into the SWF game. Line speed was slow, some uncharacteristically sloppy play, with forward passes, knock on's and missed tags, saw Bancroft edge it 7-8.
The response in game 3 was more like the Romford we've seen this season, great team work and sharp attack saw Romford win the game 12-9. Freddy Clark, Rocky Slade and Brian Corr were solid all over the park and debutant Samuel Playle showed some true grit in his first outing. We also welcomed back Strake Brannon who showed flashes of his old self, after a long lay off with an ankle injury.
