Frequently asked questions

We understand that when you start rugby for the first time, or join a new club, it can be quite daunting. That's why we've put together this list of frequently asked questions to help you know what to expect.

Your first session

1. When do training sessions take place?
Training takes place throughout the week and on weekends. Youth teams tend to train once per week and seniors will train up to two times per week.

To find out when your team is set to train, please contact us in advance.

2. Where does training take place?
All teams train at Romford and Gidea Park RFC, Crow Lane, Romford, RM7 0EP. Click here to view on Google Maps.

Occasionally, teams may make arrangements to train elsewhere, so please get in touch before a session to confirm details in advance.

3. How can I get there?
We are easily accessible by public transport and on the road.

Getting here by car
We are situated on Crow Lane, Romford, and have free parking available on our grounds. To help plan your journey, check us out on Google Maps.

Getting here by bus
We are not far from Romford station, which a number of local bus routes pass through.

The 499 from Romford Station operates a hail and ride service down Crow Lane, which goes past the entrance to the club. For journeys towards Romford Station, this bus stops only at Romford Cemetery, just a 10 minute walk from the club.

The 174 and 103 bus routes stop outside Romford Cemetery, at the end of Crow Lane, which is a 10 minute walk from the entrance to the club.

Getting here by train
We are just a 25 minute walk from Romford Station, which operates TFL rail and Greater Anglia Services, from London Liverpool Street and out towards Shenfield, Chelmsford and Southend.

Click here to plan your journey with the TFL Journey Planner.

4. What should I wear?
The short answer - anything you don't mind getting muddy and sweaty in!

You can get away with trainers during the summer months, but we would strongly recommend a pair of football boots or rugby boots.

In the winter, it gets very cold, so make sure you wrap up warm and wear plenty of layers. A waterproof jacket is always good to have too!

5. Are changing facilities available?
Yes, changing facilities are available. Please note that due to COVID-19, restrictions may be in place. Please talk to your teams coach to arrange changing facilities if required.

6. What else do I need?
The only other thing we would recommend to bring is a water bottle so you can take on plenty of fluids in the session.

We also have a bar on site, which you might want to bring some money for if you would like a little pick me up after a session!

Membership

7. How much does it cost to be a member?
Your first session is free so you can try it out and see if you like it. After that we ask that members contribute to the club with a playing subscription.
A full list of our membership fees can be found by clicking here.

8. What is included in the membership cost?
We ask all our members to make a fair and equitable contribution to the general upkeep of the club and for match day expenses. The rates are recommendations; you can pay more if you wish. As a not for profit organisation, all income generated is put back into the club so it can continue to thrive.
